Crafternoon planned

for Auburn library

The Auburn Public Library will host its monthly Saturday Crafternoon session from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event is designed for children in elementary school. Participants can drop in at any time between noon and 4 p.m.

Friends of Library sale

planned for March

The annual Friends of the Winder Library book sale will take place March 23, 24 and 26 at the Winder Library, located at 189 Bellview St.

Members of the Friends of the Winder Library can attend a preview night for the book sale from 5 to 7 p.m. March 22. Membership in the group is $10 each year. Members of the Friends group support the library financially, with membership dues and by volunteering.


Lake Berkeley Chapel

breaks ground on garden

Lake Berkeley Chapel’s outreach committee recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of its Gratitude Garden, according to the chapel’s Facebook page.

Master gardeners Jane Burke and Margaret Bergeron created a plan for the garden, which will include deer-resistant and water-tolerant plans.


Braselton chief announces

Braselton Police Chief Terry Esco recently announced the promotion of three officers in the police department.

Josh Stewart is the department’s new lieutenant. Stewart joined the Braselton Police Department in 2012 in the patrol division, according to a news release. A graduate of Dacula High, he formerly held the rank of sergeant and has 13 years’ experience in law enforcement.

Zack Tiller was promoted to detective sergeant, the news release said. A graduate of Grayson High School and Georgia College and State University, Tiller worked in the patrol and criminal investigations divisions during his nine-year law enforcement career.

Chris Spears was named sergeant, the news release said. The Murray County High graduate worked with the Jackson County sheriff’s department prior to joining the Braselton Police Department in 2015. His 11 years’ experience includes working in the patrol division and as a certified training officer.

High school students invited to CareerWorx at Gwinnett Tech

At CareerWorx, high school students and the community can examine a model heart, perform a mock sonogram, experience a full-sized construction job site, use a virtual welder, see drone photography, operate a surgical laproscopic trainer and more. Participants will also be able to talk with student recruiters, financial aid counselors and enrollment advisers.
